Increasing the sustainability of consumer goods requires developments in materials that support recycling and reuse but also the reduction of material and energy use.

For example, some 500 billion plastic bottles are produced annually consuming millions of tonnes of plastic.

SusChem is investigating how to increase the use of recyclable plastic polymers and developing technologies and materials that will radically increase the efficiency of that production process. This could make each bottle  40% lighter, thereby saving millions of tonnes of polymer each year, As a result we would save energy and reduce CO2 emissions.
