Dr Gerhard Maier is CTO and co-founder of Polymaterials AG, a service provider for polymer and plastics development and small-scale production. Since 1999, he is responsible for Polymaterials' technical operations and R&D projects. With a strong background in polymer science and more than 25 years of experience, he is working with Polymaterials' scientists and customers to develop customised solutions.
From 1989 to 1999, Dr Maier led a research group at the University of Bayreuth and the Technische Universität of Munich, specialised in high performance polymers for membrane applications and electronics applications.
Dr. Maier graduated from the Technische Universität of Munich (Germany) in 1986 with a diploma in chemistry, received a doctorate in polymer chemistry from the University of Bayreuth (Germany) in 1989, was visiting scientist in Joe Desimone’s group at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA) in 1994, and completed his “Habilitation” at Technische Universität München in 1996. In 1999 he founded Polymaterials together with two partners. He served for several years on the Scientific Advisory Board (Wisssenschaftlicher Beirat) of Bayerische Forschungsstiftung, and as an expert for research funding agencies such as AiF and BMBF in Germany.
